UPDATED OCTOBER 11, 2026

A small site.
A simple approach.

This notice describes the current AngleSelect app and website. It explains the information used by the features described below.

October 11, 2026: updated wording for the current Mac and Windows apps. The information collected and required terms revision are unchanged.

Your footage stays with you

This website does not accept video uploads. The screenshots and short demos use the developer’s own recordings or generated test footage. Both apps preview your footage locally and save an editor setup that references the original video. Neither app uploads your footage.

The native Windows app decodes shared 360° preview frames locally in memory; it does not write preview movies to disk.

Both current apps can also export separate MOV videos to a folder you choose. Rendering and any temporary staging happen on your computer. High-quality exports include available source audio; these exported movies are not uploaded.

Contact messages

If you use the contact form, your name, email address, selected topic, and message are emailed to Sam LeHardy so he can respond. Cloudflare processes the submission and sends the email. Messages are kept in Sam’s email inbox for follow-up; the site does not store a separate database of submissions. Please do not include passwords, private footage, or other sensitive information.

You can also choose a saved AngleSelect debug report (.txt, up to 16 KiB). The app generates this report locally; you choose whether to save it and include it. The contact page lets you review or remove a selected report before sending. If you submit it, its text is included in the email and kept in Sam’s inbox with your message. The report’s file name and local file path are not sent by the contact form.

Cloudflare Turnstile checks for spam, and the form limits repeated requests using your IP address. Turnstile processes browser and network signals to distinguish people from automated requests. The app’s contact links open this page without uploading footage, logs, or session settings. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

No advertising or signup forms

This site has no advertising, account registration, email signup, or checkout. The site’s own code does not set cookies or store your selections between visits.

Website analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website visits, popular pages, referral sources, approximate visitor countries, and page performance. It does not use analytics cookies or track people across websites. Our current setup excludes visitors in the EU. Browser privacy tools may also prevent measurements.

We also keep a running count of download starts for each versioned Mac installer (DMG) and Windows installer (EXE). A full download request, or the first part of a resumed transfer, adds one to that version’s count; starts beyond ten of the same installer from one network address within a minute are not counted. We store only the installer filename, total, and first and last count times in a Cloudflare database. We do not store IP addresses or device identifiers in this counter. These numbers are not unique people, completed downloads, installations, or app usage. See Cloudflare’s Web Analytics documentation for more information about website analytics.

App activity counts

Agreement before app use

These versions require installation, app-open, and editor-session reporting to use the app. Every user, including people updating from an earlier version, sees a summary with links to the usage terms and this privacy notice before app use or any app-count request. The agreement checkbox starts unchecked. Select it and choose Agree and continue to proceed, or choose Quit without sending app counts. An earlier choice to share or not share is not treated as agreement.

The accepted terms revision (2026-10-02-v1) is saved in local app preferences and preserved through updates. The app asks again if the required revision changes or the saved acceptance is missing. There is no app-count opt-out switch in these versions; if you do not agree, do not continue using them. Acceptance is checked locally, not verified by a server, and does not create an account. After agreement, the app can be used offline; reporting failures do not block editing.

What the reports contain

Installation: the event type, app version (including its Mac or Windows build), and a random installation code saved in local preferences. Our Cloudflare database stores a SHA-256 hash of the code, the first counted app version (including its Mac or Windows build), and the count time. Retries can resend the code without adding another installation. Updates preserve an existing code, including when upgrading from optional counting. The code is not a name, email address, or account.

App open: the event type and app version (including its Mac or Windows build). This adds one to a daily total without an installation code or a link to an installation record. Known app versions, including their Mac or Windows build, let the dashboard group Mac and Windows activity.

Editor session: the event type, app version (including its Mac or Windows build), and editor name. A successful supported editor-project save can add one to a daily editor total, at most once per editor per app launch. Repeated saves for that editor, switching tabs, cancelling or failing a save, and exporting individual video files do not add editor sessions. The native Windows app reports Premiere Pro and Resolve Studio saves; the Mac app reports Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro saves. Editor reports contain no installation code, session identifier, footage, file path, project name, angle settings, or export dimensions.

Cloudflare stores open totals by UTC day and version, and editor totals by UTC day, version, and editor. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to deliver and rate-limit requests; our app-count tables do not store IP addresses. These reports do not include footage, filenames, framing settings, or time spent.

The counts are approximate. Offline or failed reports can be missed; editor reports are not retried during the same launch. Reinstalling after clearing preferences can count as a new installation, and one person may use several installations. The totals do not measure unique people, every export, or use inside the external editor. Earlier records remain if you stop using the app; open and editor totals cannot be linked back to a particular installation.

Earlier versions with optional sharing

Mac versions 0.16.2 through 0.17.1 offer a sharing choice before sending app counts. Don’t share leaves reporting off. In those versions, Settings → Privacy can stop future reports. Mac 0.17.1 asks existing installation/open sharers before adding editor reports; earlier apps do not report editor use. Their saved choices remain part of local preferences, but neither an old opt-in nor an old opt-out accepts the new terms when updating to 0.17.2.

Website hosting

Cloudflare hosts this website and the app download. Downloading the app makes a normal file request; no account or email address is required. When you visit a Cloudflare-hosted site, Cloudflare processes network information, including your IP address and request details, to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its practices.

Remembering your last session

Both apps remember your last video and angles by default. They store the video’s file path, view names and framing, output and naming choices, and playback position in local app preferences on your computer. Both apps remember the selected editor. On Mac, each editor also keeps separate framing. The saved session and framing values stay in local preferences. Separately, the editor-session report described above identifies the editor used for a successful project save. Turn off Remember last video and angles in Settings (on Mac, the gear menu or AngleSelect → Settings…) to clear the saved session and stop remembering it.

App update checks

The native Windows app checks angleselect.com/updates/windows-native.json for releases in its native channel. Automatic checks start enabled and run about once a week while the app is in use; turn them off in Settings → Updates, or check manually through Help → Check for Updates…. You choose when to download an update and, after verification, when to open its installer.

Windows update checks do not send an account, installation code, footage, file paths, camera-view settings, or app-activity event. Cloudflare processes ordinary network information, including your IP address and request details, to deliver the feed and installer. Feed checks do not add an installer count. Downloading an update uses the existing installer-start counter described above; the updater adds no new app-count fields or counting scope.

Updating preserves local preferences, the installation code, and any accepted terms revision. Uninstalling the Windows app also leaves those preferences in place. An update that requires a different terms revision asks for agreement again.

Reset All Settings and Quit… in the current apps removes local preferences, the saved agreement, installation code, remembered session, and app-owned caches, then quits. Reset leaves the app installed. Your source footage and saved projects or videos stay intact. Next launch asks for agreement again; a later accepted installation can count as new. Reset does not remove earlier server-side installation records or aggregate totals. Normal updates preserve settings.

The Mac app also offers Uninstall AngleSelect… in the AngleSelect menu and Settings → Privacy. After confirmation, it clears the same local settings and caches, moves the current app to Trash, and quits. Your footage, saved projects, exported videos, editors, and plugins are not removed. Uninstall is unavailable while an export or update is in progress, or from a read-only disk image. It does not remove earlier server-side installation records or aggregate totals, and reinstalling after removal asks for agreement again. Normal Windows uninstall continues to preserve preferences; use Reset before uninstalling if you want to clear them.

The Mac app uses Sparkle to check angleselect.com for updates. Automatic checks are enabled by default and can be turned off in AngleSelect → Settings…. You choose when to install an update. These requests disclose ordinary network information such as your IP address and app version to our Cloudflare-hosted site. Sparkle system profiling is disabled. Your video, file paths, and camera-view settings are not included in update requests.
